I just LOVE California Poppies! They are so fantastic. I LOVE the color. They are so happy! I love how they POP up everywhere, along the highway in huge bunches, out of cracks in the sidewalk, on street corners, in fields and in everyone else’s gardens.
The nursery told me that poppies were hard to grow well as a transplant into a garden. So, I planted my California Poppy plant in the crappiest part of my yard four years ago. A gopher ate most of it the first year; the second year it had several blossoms; last year I don’t even remember if it existed; this year it re-emerged as a seedling several feet away from the original and one blossom burst forth.
I kept saying that my poppies were never going to bloom this year. I had poppy envy. A few weeks ago Jack yelled from the driveway, “Mommy, your flower bloomed!” and I came running out to see it. My poppy.
